Device Solutions Inc today announced the availability of the next generation 4G LTE CAT1 enabled Cellio LoRa Gateway for wide area, long range, end-to-end monitoring of agriculture, cold chain, gas distribution, transportation, and many other industrial (IIoT/M2M) applications. The Cellio solution is a TOTAL solution – encompassing the hardware, software, wireless connectivity, cloud storage, and monitoring apps for smartphones.

As of mid-2018, Verizon has announced it will no longer activate 3G devices on its network and by end of 2019 will cease to support 3G devices (2G technology was sunset in 2016). Industrial customers looking for technology that will be supported for more than a decade will need 4G LTE products like the new Cellio Gateway. Until technologies like 5G are fielded, trialed, and scheduled for scaled deployment sometime after 2020, 4G LTE technology will be the primary technology supported by the major carriers. 4G LTE will be standard for at least the next 10-20 years for fielded applications and installations.

Cellio’s distributed architecture (star topology), with dozens of sensors attached to a Cellio transceiver, connects to the Cellio gateway. The Cellio Gateway makes the connection to the cloud through the cellular network. A single Cellio Gateway can support hundreds of transceivers on a campus, facility, etc. Leveraging a single cellular connection per site represents substantial cellular savings and overall lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for enterprise-wide installations. For example:

Connecting multiple sensors to each transceiver, and possibly 100’s of transceivers to each Gateway, means that each sensor could be monitored for less than $1USD/mo inclusive of cellular fees, data hosting, dashboarding, analytics, mobile apps, etc. In contrast, alternative architecture approaches require a cellular connection for every asset (or every sensor) and can range upwards of $35/month – making many alternative approaches cost prohibitive for most clients.

In addition, Cellio Gateways are scalable and simple to deploy. Once deployed at a site, Cellio provides a platform onto which additional transceiver devices and sensors can be added very quickly, easily, and inexpensively. Cellio’s gateways provide a unique capability whereby the transceivers can simply be turned on and put into place and then automatically connect and start sending information to the Gateway which in turn relays the information to the Cloud. In practice, installations can be done in minutes with data showing up on the cloud dashboard almost instantly.

The companies have teamed up and designed systems that automate data collection, dissemination, and reporting. Customers across any industry will be able to monitor and manage data from all types of sensors for properties such as level, temperature, moisture, humidity or flow and be alerted when pre-determined thresholds have been met. Other system features include the ability to track assets and automatically optimize routes for delivery vehicles.

The backbone of the system is a wireless communication device based upon the Cellio® IIoT platform developed by Device Solutions that BinMaster will market as BinCom™. Transceivers and gateways send data from sensors to cloud-based application software. The BinMaster BinCom device roadmap will offer a variety of models compatible with Cellular CDMA, Cellular GSM, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet communication platforms. Remote data monitoring can be done via a PC, tablet, or SmartPhone and can be set up to send automated alerts via email or SMS text. Device Solutions has developed flexible dashboards that can be customized by each company, each user within a company, and by the type of sensor data they wish to monitor. BinCom is compatible with a variety of BinMaster sensors or currently installed sensors supplied by BinMaster or another manufacturer. Device Solutions Inc today announced the availability of their new Cellio LoRa long-range low-power wireless network system for end-to-end automation and instrumentation in Factories, Farms, Warehouses, Transportation, Agriculture, and many other industries.

Cellio wireless gateways and transceivers use LoRa (Long Range radio, approximately 1 mile) to connect sensors and controllers wirelessly to the network. Gateway devices connect to internal and external networks, the internet, and cloud data systems via CDMA-Cellular, GSM-Cellular, or Wi-Fi 802.11bgn. This low cost and easy to install system enables companies to gain visibility into their operations and assets (sensors, instruments, equipment, location, usage, status, decision making, supply chain, operator indicators, etc.).

The Cellio LoRa family of wireless devices includes three distinct and configurable product options:
1. Gateways – CDMA-Cellular, GSM-Celluar, or Wi-Fi connections to the network utilize a 900MHz LoRa radio to connect a network of transceivers for data capture and control. Each gateway can cover over 3 square miles containing hundreds of widely dispersed transceivers.
2. Transceivers – up to 16 general-purpose inputs/outputs (GPIO) support connecting up to 16 sensors or controls per transceiver. The transceivers use a 900MHz LoRa radio to connect through gateways to the network. Transceivers make the system incredibly flexible and cost competitive.
3. All-in-One Devices – these devices include CDMA-Cellular, GSM-Cellular and/or Wi-Fi radios, the 900MHz LoRa radio, and 16 GPIO’s. These are perfect for maximizing tracking, sensing, controlling, and communicating with assets throughout the enterprise.

“Cellio LoRa is essentially a black box to connect most anything to the network and the network to most anything,” explains Bob Witter, CEO and Founder of Device Solutions. “Driven by customer requests, Cellio is sensor and controller agnostic as well as back-end data hosting/cloud agnostic. This allows maximum flexibility on costing and configuration for enterprises of all shapes and sizes.”

How Much: Depending on the installation configuration, pricing can be based on an all-inclusive monthly service, an all upfront hardware cost, or combination of the two. Typically the hardware is in the low $100’s for the devices, sensors, and installations while the monthly amounts can be sub $10 for each device that is monitored or controlled. If a facility already has sensors and controllers in place, Cellio can be used to wirelessly connect them to the network and make the data quickly and easily accessible for dashboard views and back-end data systems for supply chain, sales force and inventory management optimization.

Cellio LoRa cellular gateways include GPS capabilities that can be used to track the location of both stationary and mobile assets (vehicles, equipment, generators, etc.). The Cellio enclosures are designed for environmentally demanding applications (industrial, agricultural, farming, transportation, mining, and many others).
